Summary
Join Evok Innovations, a cleantech venture capital fund, as a part-time Accountant! Reporting to the CFO, you will manage day-to-day accounting, payroll, and assist in financial reporting and analysis. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with expertise in managing day-to-day accounting, month-end closing processes, and Canadian and US payroll. The position offers flexibility with approximately 15-20 hours per week, with opportunities for increased hours during busy periods and a remote work environment. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience, proficiency in QuickBooks and Excel, and a CPA or CGA designation (or be working towards it). Compensation is $30-40/hour, with the option for an independent contractor or full-time position.
Requirements
- Professional Designation: CPA or CGA preferred; candidates working toward CPA designation will be considered
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in bookkeeping and accounting roles
- Proven experience managing Canadian and US payroll and tax filings
- Expertise in GST filings and a strong understanding of tax processes
- Proficiency in QuickBooks, Excel, and financial tools (e.g., Plooto)
- Experience supporting external audits and liaising with auditors
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and strong organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and proactively in a remote environment
Responsibilities
- Prepare and manage all corporate accounting activities for the organization, including the preparation of accurate journal entries, accruals, inter-company invoicing, analysis of GL accounts and month-end closing processes
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations and inter-company reconciliations
- Maintain and manage financial records in QuickBooks, ensuring accuracy and completeness
- Process US and Canadian payroll for employees, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations
- Manage and prepare all payroll-related filings and submissions
- Manage and file GST returns and ensure compliance with all relevant tax regulations
- Assist with corporate tax filing process by compiling necessary documents and preparing workbooks requested by external tax consultants
- Provide support for external audits, including liaising with auditors and pulling required documentation
- Prepare monthly and quarterly reporting packages, including balance sheets and income statements
- Analyze financial data and make adjusting journal entries to correct discrepancies
- Assist in the preparation of consolidated annual financial statements for Evok Innovations Inc
- Assist in the quarterly budget to actual variance analysis
- Provide support to the CFO on other finance and operational activities as required
- Ensure continuous improvement in financial processes, accuracy, and timeliness
