Summary

Join the Angeles Chapter of the Sierra Club as an Activist Academy Intern! This 6-month, part-time (15-20 hours/week) remote internship, based in Los Angeles with weekly on-site work, supports a leadership development program for young adults (18-35) interested in climate justice. You will gain valuable experience in program coordination, communications, and project management while contributing to a vital environmental cause. The internship involves administrative support, communications development, logistical arrangements, and material creation for the Activist Academy. Successful candidates will possess strong communication, relationship-building, and digital literacy skills, along with an understanding of equity and anti-oppression principles. This is a paid internship with an hourly rate of $20.

Requirements

  • Ability to cultivate meaningful relationships and build trust with individuals and among groups
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills
  • Experience with digital communication tools. Channels include Google suite, Microsoft suite, database maintenance, and some social media
  • Understanding and/or experience working with populations traditionally under-represented in conservation and the environmental movement
  • Equity Analysis and Practice. You are aware of your group identities and how they have shaped your life and experiences at work. You have an analysis of how racism and other forms of oppression in society impact relationships, systems, and culture. You bring experience and skills for working effectively with colleagues across group identities and roles

Responsibilities

  • Offer administrative support to the Activist Academy program
  • Work with volunteers and staff and trainers to support the recruitment, coordination, and organization of the Activist Academy
  • Track participant applications and communicate with interested individuals
  • Develop communications to advertise the Activist Academy program
  • Coordinate and distribute communications through chapter communication channels
  • Help make reservations and accommodations for Activist Academy sessions (includes travel, location meeting reservations, food etc.)
  • Learn and grow through regular check-ins with the chapter conservation program manager and support the overall effectiveness of the program leadership team
  • Have the opportunity to learn and get direct experience in learning about project management
  • Help develop activist academy program materials like curriculum binders and other course-related materials
  • Place orders for Activist Academy materials and equipment as needed
  • Attend and support the Activist Academy Program sessions
  • Participate in chapter meetings, activist academy sessions, and events that may land outside of regular business hours

Benefits

$20 - $20 an hour
