Summary
Join Walden University as a Faculty Member and contribute to our diverse community of adult learners. This role primarily involves teaching blended academic year in residence (BAYR) courses online using the Blackboard platform. Responsibilities include engaging with students asynchronously and synchronously, grading assignments, answering questions, and delivering two synchronous sessions per quarter. Faculty members are expected to be reasonably accessible to students outside of class time and provide substantive feedback. Travel to Minneapolis, MN for a 7-day in-person component of the BAYR course is required. Additional opportunities for stipends exist through participation in doctoral dissertation committees and residencies.
Requirements
- Possess a Doctoral level Psychologist license
- Earned doctorate in the field of study or closely related field (or recognized by a country’s Ministry of Education or Counsel of Higher Education)
- Possess a significant record of intellectual and professional contributions to the field of Psychology, including experience in the practice of Professional Psychology (Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology or School Psychology)
- Maintain licenses and any appropriate certifications to continue teaching at Walden University
- Maintain currency with research by reviewing articles, journals, and presentations
- Have an adequate computer to handle an electronic learning platform, keyboard, and computer monitor
- Be able to use Microsoft Office products (Word/Excel/PowerPoint), online meeting software such as Teams and Zoom, zip software, and Adobe Acrobat
- Have reliable internet access and alternate access in cases where primary access becomes unavailable
Responsibilities
- Teach BAYR courses using the Blackboard platform
- Engage with students in asynchronous discussion boards
- Grade assignments and answer student questions
- Deliver two synchronous sessions during the quarter
- Respond to student questions within 48 hours
- Provide in-person instruction for approximately 4-5 hours per day during the 7-day in-person component of the BAYR course in Minneapolis, MN
- Participate in professional development and advising of students during the BAYR course sequence
- Be reasonably accessible to students outside of course time
- Provide substantive feedback on assignments and postings
- Publish availability to students through course syllabi, instructor information, and other appropriate documents
Preferred Qualifications
- Have three to five years of teaching experience at the degree level of the program
- Have two years or more of online or technology-enabled instruction experience
- Have two years or more of student research mentoring experience
- Have experience administering, scoring, interpreting psychological assessments, preferably cognitive, learning, achievement, and objective and projective personality assessments
- Have experience with a variety of psychotherapeutic interventions
- Demonstrate a commitment to advocating for the learning and development needs of adult students earning their degrees in a distance learning environment
- Possess excellent teaching, advising, mentoring, leadership, communication, team, and human relations skills
- Have experience with distance learning
- Be willing to travel to provide face-to-face instruction
Benefits
- Graduate Course Instruction: $1,560 - $4,080 per Quarter or Semester, depending on type of course taught and length of course
- Undergraduate Course Instruction: $700 - $2,200 per quarter, depending on type of course taught and length of course
- Opportunities for dissertation/doctoral study committee chair positions, research reviewing, and dissertation and doctoral study mentoring
- Hybrid work model with three in-office days and two remote days per week (transitioning to a four-day in-office schedule, Monday–Thursday, starting Q1 2025)
