Summary
Join Search for Common Ground's Africa Program Development Hub as a program development intern and contribute to building peace across the African continent. Based in Kenya (Mombasa office or remote) or francophone Africa (office or remote), you will support the development of successful proposals and concept notes. You will work with a high-performing team, contributing to various stages of program development, from writing proposals and engaging with partners to supporting donor engagement. The internship requires a minimum of 20 hours per week for six months, starting January 1, 2025. A modest stipend will be provided. Undergraduates, graduate students, and recent graduates are welcome to apply.
Requirements
- Degree in relevant subject
- Strong writing, editing and communication skills in English
- For candidates based in francophone Africa, fluency in French is required
- Demonstrable interest in and knowledge of peacebuilding or international development in Sub-Saharan Africa
- A self-starting, detail-oriented and flexible approach to tasks
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and tight deadlines
- Excellent attention to detail
Responsibilities
- Assist with the development of proposals, including but not limited to writing proposal narratives, developing theories of change, articulating program activities, drafting logical frameworks and copy-editing
- Contribute to the development of up-to-date and accurate context statements through rigorous desk research
- Support the development of fundraising strategies
- Analyze calls for proposals and support the teamβs pre-positioning efforts, including research on and outreach to potential partners
- Edit English (and/or French) proposals and communications materials for clarity and precision
- Attend conferences, events, and meetings, representing the team, and sharing notes afterwards
- Backstop the Africa Program Development Hub and our country offices on a range of logistical and administrative tasks
Preferred Qualifications
- Other languages (Portuguese, Somali) an asset
- Experience working at a non-governmental organization/non-profit or similar environment
- Practical experience in program development
- International experience, preferably in developing countries
