Summary

Join Quantinuum as an AMO Theory Architect to contribute to the development of next-generation large-scale quantum computers. Work remotely or in Broomfield, CO, applying your expertise in QCCD architecture, quantum error correction, and sub-system concepts. You will leverage your understanding of QC scalability enablers like photonics and micro-fabrication to design a state-of-the-art commercial quantum computer. The role involves leading an architecture team, analyzing quantum computer performance, defining system requirements, and collaborating with sub-system teams. You will communicate findings to various teams and implement best scientific practices. A competitive salary and benefits package are offered.

Requirements

  • PhD completed prior to starting
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience (PhD inclusive) involving one or more of the following areas: quantum information, ion trapping, qubits, atomic physics, numerical simulation, spectroscopy, optics, vacuum systems, electronics, cryogenics, lasers, photonics, or laboratory work in the physical sciences
  • Applicants for employment for this position must have work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States and with Quantinuum. (i.e., H1-B visa, F-1 visa (OPT), TN visa or any other non-immigrant status)

Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture team to conceptualize large scale quantum computers
  • Analyze the performance of a variety of candidate large scale quantum computers
  • Define system level requirements and high-level sub-system and technology requirements
  • Numerically simulated quantum operations such gates, measurements, readout, and cooling
  • Work with sub-system teams to identify potential technology insertions into the architecture
  • Communicate findings and design proposals to larger technical, management, and executive teams
  • Develop, implement, and oversee best scientific practices across the architecture team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading a team in designing or operating a device for quantum information processing
  • 15 years’ experience in scientific research and development, engineering, or leadership roles
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills, and experience in working with customers and partners
  • Experience modeling quantum systems
  • Experience developing quantum error correcting codes or quantum computing algorithms
  • Experience with laser cooling and trapping of ions or neutral atoms
  • Experience performing simulation and modeling to inform experiments
  • Experience with control systems for data collection, signal processing and analysis
  • Experience designing and optimizing experiments
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with published results within their field of research
