Summary
Join onX, a pioneer in digital outdoor navigation, as a motivated Android Engineer. You will contribute to the development and maintenance of our Backcountry application, focusing on features for human-powered adventures. This role offers the opportunity to impact a dynamic startup and the mobile mapping industry. The position is remote-friendly with various location options, including corporate offices and Basecamps. Competitive compensation, including a salary range of $125,000 to $145,000, annual bonuses, equity, and comprehensive benefits are offered. You will collaborate with a team of experienced developers, utilizing Kotlin and other technologies to build a high-performing, offline-first application.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in software engineering, computer engineering, computer science or related degree
- Minimum five (5) years of professional software development experience, where Android development (Kotlin and/or Java) was your professional focus for at least three (3) or more years
- Must have worked on an app that has been released to the Google Play Store, either as an individual or member of a team
- Strong CS Fundamentals such as algorithms and data structures
- Familiarity with Git/Github
- Experience with gRPC and/or REST
- Experience with SQLite or other relational databases
- Understanding of best practices and architectural patterns such as MVVM
- You are excited to work with experienced developers and write great code

Responsibilities
- Develop new user-facing features in our Android app with Kotlin
- Write reusable code and libraries for future use
- Maintain an “offline first” application that must work with or without service
- Store data locally using a combination of SQLite, Shared Preferences, and disk caching
- Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs
- Optimize application for maximum speed, scalability, and battery life
- Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders
- Other ad hoc duties as assigned by the Supervisor
Preferred Qualifications
- You have previous experience in mobile app development; experience with a published app is a plus
- You know your data structures and you know how to apply them
- You have worked with Kotlin
- Experience working with a distributed team
