Summary

Join Wilcore as a Back End Engineer to contribute to the development, testing, and maintenance of secure back-end services for VA web applications and digital forms. You will build APIs, integrate with VA systems and third-party platforms, and improve form infrastructure, data storage, and accessibility. Responsibilities include supporting DevOps practices, writing documentation, and ensuring system reliability and performance. This role requires 4+ years of back-end engineering experience, familiarity with AWS or other cloud infrastructure, and experience with databases. A Bachelor’s degree and US citizenship are required, along with the ability to obtain a low-level security clearance. Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in back-end engineering (Rails, Python, or similar)
  • Experience with RESTful API development and microservices architecture
  • Familiarity with AWS (especially GovCloud) or other cloud infrastructure
  • Experience with databases (PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, or similar)
  • Knowledge of security, logging, and compliance in federal environments
  • Strong Git, CI/CD, and testing practices
  • Experience working in Agile development environments
  • Must be a US Citizen and able to work domestically
  • Must be able to attain low-level security clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree

Responsibilities

  • Develop, test, and maintain secure back-end services that support VA web applications and digital forms
  • Build APIs for form logic, submission handling, validation, and integrate with VA systems and third-party platforms
  • Contribute to platform-wide improvements in form infrastructure, data storage, accessibility compliance, and automation
  • Support devops practices, help write documentation, and ensure that backend systems are reliable and performant at scale

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs
  • Familiarity with the VA.gov Design System and building forms on VA.gov
  • Understanding of 508 accessibility and Section 504 compliance
