Backend Engineer

Summary

Join Zowie's Java team and contribute to the redesign of core architecture, building a low-latency central message delivery platform connecting Zowie with various channels like Facebook and WhatsApp. This role involves designing reliable, performant, and extensible systems, utilizing technologies like speech-to-text and text-to-speech, and potentially working with Scala. You will be involved in shaping end-to-end solutions, influencing architecture decisions, and enhancing engineering practices within a team of over 100 ambitious individuals. The company values outcomes, automatic tests, and Ports and Adapters practices. Zowie fosters a collaborative environment with regular planning, stand-ups, and code reviews.

Requirements

• Possess excellent coding skills and a passion for growing expertise
• Have strong experience with JVM languages
• Possess excellent knowledge of SQL and relational databases
• Demonstrate strong communication skills, actively listening and explaining complex technical issues simply
• Possess excellent system design skills to wisely choose technologies and architectures
• Have experience with Distributed systems
• Show product acumen, ownership, and focus on value delivered for the customers
• Have working proficiency in English and Polish (both spoken and written)

Responsibilities

• Join our Java team that works on the challenging goal of redesigning important parts of Zowie’s architecture - building a low-latency central message delivery platform
• Design our systems with reliability, performance, and extensibility in mind
• Learn about exciting technologies like speech to text and text to speech and try out real functional programming by occasionally reading or writing some Scala code
• Shape end-to-end solutions
• Influence architecture decisions
• Propose crucial enhancements to our engineering practices

Preferred Qualifications

• Have experience with Spring framework
• Have experience with NoSql databases
• Have experience with Kafka or other message brokers
• Have experience with GraphQL
• Have experience with Docker Swarm / Kubernetes
