Summary

Join MATRIX, a national company offering camp, logistics, and aviation services, as an experienced Second Cook at one of our remote camps. Reporting to the First Cook, you will prepare meals using fresh, seasonal produce, develop menus, manage food inventory, and maintain a safe and clean kitchen environment. This role demands strong organizational and communication skills, food safety knowledge, and the ability to work effectively in a team. The position is a 3-week on/3-week off rotation, fully remote, with paid travel days and a daily salary range of $325-$350. Preference is given to local residents. A criminal record check and references are mandatory.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three (3) years working in a Cook position
  • Organizational and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Conflict resolution skills
  • Highly motivated, team-oriented individual with attention to detail
  • Physical ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
  • Able to lift and move heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time
  • Able to maintain a high level of performance over a 10 – 12 hour shift

Responsibilities

  • Prepare lunch and dinner
  • Use seasonal garden produce for meals
  • Prepare baked goods and desserts from scratch
  • Develop menus that reflect site preferences and dietary restrictions
  • Maintain sufficient food inventory for site resident numbers
  • Implement and execute a Food Safety Plan using advanced HACCP recording methods
  • Place and receive grocery orders, and maintain sufficient food inventory for site resident numbers
  • Liaise with grocers for quality, quantity and back orders
  • Maintain a well-organized and clean food storage area
  • Ensure the “first in first out” rotation procedure to support food inventory control
  • Execute safe food storage and labeling of potential food allergy items
  • Participate in daily toolbox meetings
  • Provide kitchen facility orientation and ongoing coaching/training to incoming kitchen staff
  • Conduct monthly worksite inspections as it relates to the kitchen facilities
  • Ensure kitchen staff performs tasks according to safe work practices and safe job procedures
  • Report any unsafe conditions and/or equipment issues to Resort Manager
  • Report all incidents and accidents immediately
  • Ensure good housekeeping in the work area at all times
  • Maintain a high performing, team orientated and productive work environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Food Safe Handling Certificate and WHMIS Certificate
  • Culinary Diploma and/or Red Seal Designation preferred
  • Previous experience working in a camp setting
