Summary

Join Personalis, a company transforming cancer management through personalized testing, as a Bioinformatics Engineer. This 6-month remote role involves generating custom immuno-oncology and MRD/liquid biopsy reports for biopharma customers. You will retrieve, process, and format genomic data, ensuring rigorous quality control. Collaboration with the CDR team for continuous improvement is key. The position requires expertise in Python and bioinformatics data formats, along with experience in a bioinformatics role. Familiarity with high-performance computing and SQL is a plus.

Requirements

  • Minimum BS in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related field
  • At least 1 yearโ€™s experience working in a bioinformatics role
  • Expertise in Python, particularly in using pandas data frames for data wrangling
  • Familiarity with standard bioinformatics NGS data formats and annotations
  • Obsessed with getting the details right
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively with other team members
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Work with our existing frameworks to execute custom report generation
  • Work within a team scrum context to ensure timely delivery across multiple concurrent projects
  • Perform detailed QC of the generated reports to ensure all of the content meets the customers' specifications prior to delivery
  • Using established QC tools for systematically testing the accuracy of generated custom reports to detect hidden errors and irregularities in the data
  • Collaborate with and provide feedback to the Custom Data Report (CDR) team to drive continuous improvement

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using high-performance compute clusters is a plus
  • Proficiency in Unix/Linux environments and Bash scripting
  • Experience with SQL queries to extract and filter large data sets is a plus
  • Understanding of different assays and modes of sequencing (WGS vs. Exome, RNA-seq, Tumor vs. Normal, Somatic vs. Germline, etc.)
  • Understanding of NGS biomarkers related to cancer (e.g. copy numbers, fusions, SNV and INDELs)
  • Experience with Jira, Confluence and Git for version control is a plus
