Braille Transcriber

Summary

Join LAC Federal as a Braille Music Transcriber to provide transcription services for digitized musical works, offering virtual and face-to-face support to library users, and performing various duties related to the library services desk. This is a part-time remote position with flexible hours.

Requirements

• Be certified in braille transcription by the Library of Congress
• Hold a braille music certification, full level for most tasks, or a minimum of associate level for selected tasks
• Experience transcribing or proofreading braille
• Knowledge of literary braille (EBAE, UEB)
• Knowledge of music braille including current and previous standards

Responsibilities

• Transcribe music into Braille format
• Provide virtual and face-to-face support to library users
• Perform opening and closing procedures for the library services desk
• Assist patrons with directional requests in locating materials
• Check library materials in and out, follow up with overdue materials
• Process interlibrary loan requests
• Perform daily collections maintenance by reshelving materials, shelving current periodicals, straightening and cleaning reading room and collection storage areas

Preferred Qualifications

• Some knowledge of French, German, Italian, Spanish, etc
• Knowledge of various styles of classical and popular European and American music from various eras
