Summary

Join Pythian as a Cassandra Database Consultant and focus on project work, debugging performance issues, audits, and health checks. Design and implement new Cassandra deployments, evaluate existing clusters, and provide best practice recommendations. Debug high-priority issues in mission-critical production environments and engage with the Cassandra community. Contribute to rapid brainstorming and prototyping, automate operational procedures, and train junior team members. Provide performance reports and participate in on-call support. This role requires a Bachelor's or Master's degree or equivalent experience and 2-3 years of NoSQL database experience.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
  • Over 2 to 3 years of experience with NoSQL databases such as Cassandra, Solr, Scylla, CockroachDB. Cassandra experience preferred
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Shell, Java, Go, C#, C++, Ruby, Python, Ansible), with Shell and Python being preferred
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • Experience with web applications, distributed systems and databases
  • Familiarity with multiple orchestration and configuration management systems
  • Understanding of continuous integration and automation practices
  • Knowledge of multiple monitoring, alerting and metric collection systems
  • An understanding of current IT service standards, such as ITIL
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • A self-motivated and directed approach to working in a demanding, fast-paced environment
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Strong active listening skills
  • Robust analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving capabilities
  • Highly effective multitasking and organizational skills

Responsibilities

  • Focus on project work, debugging performance degradations, audits, and health checks
  • Design and help implement new Cassandra deployments
  • Evaluate existing clusters and provide recommendations on best practices
  • Debug high priority issues on mission critical production environments
  • Engage with the Cassandra community through user lists, irc, blog posts, webinars, and open source projects
  • Contribute to rapid brainstorming, designing and developing of prototypes
  • Automate and provide documentation on operational procedures
  • Train and mentor junior team members
  • Provide performance and forecast reports on the health and load of critical business processes to help ensure the infrastructure has adequate capacity
  • Participate in company, and team meetings
  • Continued education in Pythianโ€™s Operations as a Service supported stack
  • Provide on-call support in your teamโ€™s on-call rotational schedule
