Summary

Join Zensurance's Underwriting Team as a Commercial Underwriter and leverage technology to evaluate new and existing insurance policies. You will work closely with the broking team, providing quotes and guidance, and collaborate with the Insurance Analytics team to optimize binding authority programs. Responsibilities include owning referral underwriting across various lines of business, using data-driven insights to expand underwriting authority, and negotiating with partner insurers. You will maintain data integrity, adhere to underwriting standards, and contribute to the development of underwriting guidelines. This role requires 3 years of commercial underwriting experience in P&C, E&O, or MedMal, along with strong analytical and communication skills. Requirements

  • 3 years of commercial underwriting experience, with a background in Property & Casualty (P&C), Errors & Omissions (E&O), or Medical Malpractice (MedMal)
  • Good knowledge of Commercial wording and pricing
  • Advanced skills with MS Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Skilled with Google Workspace, Zoom, and Slack, or similar office tools
  • Skilled with Adobe and Salesforce
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Able to communicate effectively with stakeholders, both verbally and written
  • Able to collaborate with team members and lead in group settings
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion

Responsibilities

  • Own referral underwriting across various lines of business, including commercial property, general liability, professional lines, and medical malpractice
  • Work closely with our broking team to provide quotes, guidance, and place risks within our in-house facilities
  • Partner with the Insurance Analytics team to review and optimize Zensurance’s binding authority programs
  • Use real-time program data to understand current performance and make data-driven recommendations for expanding underwriting authority
  • Negotiate with partner insurers on terms and conditions that fall outside our authority
  • Proactively identify cause-and-effect relationships and explore solutions to support good decision-making
  • Maintain data integrity to support all underwriting processes and help team objectives
  • Adhere to underwriting standards and practices to minimize risk and ensure compliance
  • Understand in-house program underwriting requirements, including endorsements and limits
  • Help audit in-house policies for adherence to our underwriting guidelines
  • Contribute to wording comparisons across different insurance companies
  • Partner with Senior Underwriters, Underwriting Specialists, and the Director of Underwriting in evaluating new program opportunities, developing underwriting guidelines, and comparing current market offerings
  • Where appropriate, escalate difficult or complex items, customer complaints, or inquiries to Senior Underwriters or the Director of Underwriting

Preferred Qualifications

Working towards or completion of CIP/CAIB/CRM courses is an asset
