Summary
Join WiredPeople as a Community Health RN Consultant and contribute to improving public health in Florida. Based in Florida, you will travel to birthing hospitals, conducting monitoring visits to assess hepatitis B and pertussis prevention activities. Responsibilities include reviewing clinical protocols, medical records, and drafting reports. Data will be collected and reported to the CDC. You will also provide technical assistance and serve as a case reviewer. This role requires a Florida Registered Nurse license and three years of relevant experience.
Requirements
- Licensure as a Registered Professional nurse in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes
- Three (3) years of applicable professional experience
- Ability to travel to the surrounding area hospitals with overnight stays will be required
Responsibilities
- Travel to a minimum of 18 and maximum of 22 birthing hospitals within their assigned region within the state of Florida and conduct monitoring visits to assess and determine what hepatitis B virus (HBV) and pertussis prevention activities occurred
- Draft and send an introduction letter to the executive staff for each birthing hospital providing an overview of the review process, assessment activities, and requesting admission to conduct a monitoring visit
- Review the labor & delivery/postpartum clinical protocols on the screening process for obtaining the Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) status for all pregnant clients and identifying HBsAg-positive mothers
- Review the labor & delivery/postpartum clinical Protocols to determine if the birthing hospital utilizes standing orders to provide the birth dose of hepatitis B (Hep B) vaccine to infants born to Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) positive mothers
- Review hospital medical records of at least 60 and not more than 80 newborns to determine if the required Hepatitis B birth dose was administered
- Review hospital protocols to determine if the birthing hospital utilizes standing orders to offer and provide the post-partum dose of tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccine to postpartum women
- Review hospital medical records of at least 60 and not more than 80 labor & delivery/postpartum patients to assess the administration of the Tdap vaccine to postpartum women
- Draft and send a follow-up letter to executive staff for each birthing hospital documenting the hospital medical record review with recommendations for each completed birthing hospital monitoring visit
- Collect and report data to the Centers for Disease Control during each monitoring visit regarding the number and percentage of birthing hospitals in Florida: with standing orders to administer the hep B birth dose prior to hospital discharge, which have hep B birth dose administration rates of 50% or less, with standing orders to administer the Tdap to postpartum women prior to hospital discharge, administering Tdap to postpartum women prior to hospital discharge
- Serve as the secondary/back-up case reviewer of HBsAg positive in pregnant women and Perinatal Hep B infant cases under investigation
- Provide technical assistance and guidance to ensure that county health department PHBPP case management care coordinators are providing case management and follow-up
Preferred Qualifications
Professional experience gained working in a hospital setting with specific experienced in a maternity ward is preferred
