Concept/Visual Development Artist

Summary
Join Zoic Studios, a Visual Effects company specializing in high-end visual effects, as a Concept/Visual Development Artist for Environments! You will create visual development pieces defining the visual style and storytelling of our stop-motion animated feature project. Collaborate with the VFX Art Director and creative leads to produce compelling visuals guiding the film's production. Responsibilities include conceptualizing key visual beats, developing key art from storyboards and pre-vis models, rendering high-quality images for various VFX departments, refining production images using 2D software, and ensuring timely deliverables. The role demands strong artistic skills, proficiency in 3D and 2D software, and collaborative abilities within a fast-paced environment. This position offers the option to work remotely from British Columbia or in our Vancouver studio.
Requirements
- 3+ years’ experience as a Concept/Visual Development Artist, preferably in the VFX or film industry
- Strong portfolio showcasing a range of high-quality visual development and key art pieces
- Excellent understanding of color theory, lighting, composition, and visual storytelling
- Strong artistic skills with a keen eye for detail and realism
- Experience working with reference data, renders, photos, HDRIs, and photogrammetry
- Ability to work collaboratively in an extremely fast-paced, creative environment
- Strong time-management skills
- Proficiency in 3D modeling, sculpting, and rendering software such as Maya, Blender, Houdini, Terragen, World Creator, Gaea, ZBrush is required; experience with Adobe Creative Suite, is preferred
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the VFX Art Director to conceptualize and/or iterate on key visual beats and themes throughout the film
- Starting from storyboards, 2D concept art , or rough pre-vis models, develop and create visually stunning key art that aligns with the film’s visual style and narrative
- Render high-quality key images to provide various VFX departments (Enviro, Lighting, FX, Comp) with realistic and applicable production ready targets
- Use 2D software to refine production images and/or elements into practical production ready targets
- Work closely with the production team to ensure deliverables meet fast - paced delivery schedules
- Participate in team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and reviews to provide creative input and feedback
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and department leads to ensure alignment of visual goals and project timelines
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong photography portfolio
- Experience in traditional art forms such as drawing, sculpting , or painting
Benefits
- British Columbia Employees Pay Range: $45 - $60 (The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location of the position)
- At this time, we’re pleased to offer this role as an option to work from home OR work from our Vancouver studio in the beautiful Gastown area, close to the Waterfront Station in Downtown. (Remote is not available outside of BC; there is no hybrid)
