Summary
Join Walden University's Richard Riley College of Education and Human Sciences as a part-time faculty member for its MS in Psychology program, utilizing a Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum. This remote position (for those over 50 miles from specified Adtalem offices) allows you to share your expertise with students nationwide and globally, setting your own schedule. As a faculty subject matter expert (SME), you'll directly support students, provide feedback, and contribute to curriculum development. Walden offers comprehensive training in CBE and its online platform. Compensation is competitive, varying based on factors like course type and experience. Occasional travel may be required.
Requirements
- Earned doctorate degree in the field of psychology for faculty teaching graduate level courses
- Possess a significant record of intellectual and professional contributions to the field of study
- Ability to work with diverse students who are experienced and mid-career professionals
- Ability to manage fluctuations in workload based on current student population within competencies
- Teaching, advising and mentoring; commitment to the promotion of applied research and the recruitment and development of a diverse faculty; excellent leadership, communication, team, and human relations skills
- Have an adequate computer to handle an electronic learning platform, keyboard, pointing device, and computer monitor
- Able to use Microsoft Office products (Word/Excel/PowerPoint), zip software, and Adobe Acrobat
- Have reliable Internet access as well as alternate access in cases where primary access becomes unavailable
Responsibilities
- Work directly with students to assist with any questions or challenges they may have in acquiring the necessary knowledge and skills needed to demonstrate proficiency in each competency
- Initiate regular and substantive academic engagement with each student as they work through each competency for which the SME has responsibility. Additionally, the faculty SME is required to document the substance of all students’ academic engagement in the student's record
- Post and promptly respond to student questions through frequent discussion board sessions in the learning platform, as well as respond to individual student emails on academic content
- Use detailed rubrics to validate the student assessment as demonstrating competency
- Use corrective feedback sparingly, emphasizing positive feedback that encourages good work and invites learners to make revisions toward excellence
- Leverage available learning and behavioral analytics to track student engagement on a weekly basis and identify students who require more immediate intervention
- Assure curriculum quality. Faculty SME’s play a crucial role in the development, review, and ongoing improvement of the CBE curriculum
- Develop sensitivity to cultural differences that influence communication and understanding
- Develop a repertoire of online discussion catalysts in your subject area to stimulate and drive engagement
- Create an atmosphere of mutual respect while engaging students in the learning endeavors
- Monitor all students’ work for academic integrity
- Regularly review competency content and recommend updates to resource links or other materials as necessary
- Educate Walden University students by effectively and proficiently using online technology and resources so that knowledge, information, feedback, and critique are imparted to and shared with students in thoughtful, carefully formulated, well written, and timely communications
- Adhere to all Walden University Faculty expectations
- Collaborate with Academic Coaches and other faculty colleagues and interact with students within the context of specific assigned CBE modules
- Be flexible and prepared to respond to student inquiries within 48 hours and return assessments with feedback within 72 hours
- Publish their availability to students in the Tempo Learning platform
Preferred Qualifications
- A minimum of three years of teaching experience at the degree level of the program
- Commitment to excellence in a student-centered competency-based learning environment and to addressing the needs of self-directed distance education students
- Experience with distance education and competency-based education
Benefits
- Graduate Course Instruction: $1,560 - $4,080 per Quarter or Semester, depending on type of course taught and length of course
- Undergraduate Course Instruction: $700 - $2,200 per quarter, depending on type of course taught and length of course
- Other opportunities for its contributing faculty members, such as dissertation/doctoral study committee chair positions, research reviewing, and dissertation and doctoral study mentoring
- Remote work option (for those over 50 miles from specified Adtalem offices)
