Summary
Join our team of diverse technical professionals as we seek an experienced Data Scientist to assist the Department of Veterans Affairs in analyzing clinical data and Informatics solutions delivered to the VA enterprise.
Requirements
- Master's degree plus 5 years of relevant experience
- Experience creating and analyzing clinical data and creating data visualizations that communicate clinical outcomes, improvements, and costs
- Experience using statistical methods for the measurement of clinical outcomes
- Experience with conducting causal inference with observational data and in quasi-experimental settings (e.g., differences-in-differences, instrumental variables, regression discontinuity designs, causal forests, meta-learners, doubly robust learning, etc.)
- Hands-on experience with statistics and machine learning data mining, forecasting, simulation, and/or predictive modeling, preferably in the healthcare sector
- Advanced experience handling complex data sets within large organizations, including data cleaning, transformation, and analysis
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; must provide examples if chosen for an interview
- Understanding of data ethics principles and how to avoid or reduce biases to build ethical and responsible data science/analytics products
- Strong programming skills in Python and/or R with a focus on data analysis, data science, or machine learning
- Advanced SQL development experience
- Strong understanding of version control (i.e. git)
Responsibilities
- Develops and manages information to support strategic decision-making
- Performs complex analyses and communicates findings to business owners and senior leaders
- Conducts and facilitates (and educates and trains on) analyses, data research, data manipulation, risk assessment, solution development, and strategic alignment
- Provides consulting and analytic services to leadership
- Collaborates with cross-functional teams to develop data visualizations with meaningful insights
- Analyzes and interprets data trends and patterns with performance objectives in mind
- Defines data assets to develop performance measurements, key performance indicators and objectives, and key results
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in a quantitative field, such as Statistics, Epidemiology, Computer Science, Clinical Informatics or related disciplines
- Experience in Agile, SAFe Agile
- VA experience
- Experience with VistA/CPRS a plus, and VA Corporate Data Warehouse (CDW)
