Beacon Biosignals

πŸ“Remote - United States

Summary

Join Beacon Biosignals, a leading at-home EEG platform, as a Data Scientist/Biostatistician to analyze petabytes of EEG data and drive advancements in brain health. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support life sciences engagements with industry partners, focusing on neurological, psychiatric, and sleep disorders. You will co-author scientific reports, deliver impactful data visualizations, and write reusable, documented code. The role involves working with large datasets, leading multiple concurrent studies, and presenting analyses to external audiences. This position is ideal for experienced biostatisticians with a strong background in clinical trial and real-world health data analysis. Beacon offers a robust asynchronous work environment with office hubs in Boston, New York City, and Paris.

Requirements

  • You've spent multiple years in industry using your expertise in biostatistics to analyze clinical trial and/or real-world health data
  • You're deeply familiar with statistical modeling, including interpretation and diagnostics. You pick the right statistical tool for the job and, perhaps most importantly, you know when that tool is not a model
  • You're comfortable designing and overseeing experiments that leverage data across disparate sources and modalities to answer scientific questions
  • You're painfully aware that thoughtful data curation is a prerequisite to analysis results that hold up under practical application
  • You love teamwork and recognize that people can achieve more together than individually. You value close collaboration, open communication, and tight feedback loops to ensure you and your team are working together effectively and doing your best work
  • You have excellent written and verbal communication and listening skills
  • You have substantial experience presenting analyses to external audiences; you've learned the hard way what does and does not make an understandable and impactful presentation
  • You stay calm and organized to meet tight deadlines amidst ambiguity
  • You have experience writing code meant to be read and used by others, and are familiar with both the "how" and "why" of version control, unit tests, and debugging
  • You're familiar with and/or are excited to work with the technologies that power Beacon's data and reporting systems, including Julia, AWS, Superset, Pandoc, SQL, and GraphQL
  • You prefer open source dependencies over closed source dependencies because you have a compulsion to read the code you're running
  • You're comfortable working in a highly asynchronous hybrid work environment, and have demonstrated success doing so in the past

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with teams of neuroscientists, data scientists, engineers, and other subject matter experts to develop statistical analysis plans for clinical trials, execute analyses, and write up results and interpretations
  • Perform sample size calculations that ensure our and our partners' studies are powered appropriately to measure meaningful effects on the brain
  • Co-author scientific reports whose impact pushes the field past contemporary limitations
  • Deliver clear and impactful data visualizations and presentations to varied audiences, both internal and external
  • Write and review reusable, documented, tested code that produces polished, high quality analytical results for our partners and powers our core computational pipelines
  • Leverage Beacon's products and your own subject matter expertise to inform analysis planning and execution
  • Dig into large, messy, unfamiliar datasets, document their idiosyncrasies, and harmonize them with Beacon's datastore
  • Lead and support the scientific and technical aspects of multiple concurrent studies, including both planning and execution

Benefits

The base salary range for this role is determined based on past experience, specific skills and qualifications. The base salary is one component of the total compensation package, which includes equity, PTO and other benefits
