Summary
Join our Local Programs and Regulatory Compliance team and ensure compliance with local laws and regulations in our operating countries. Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to manage licensing, registrations, and reporting to regulatory bodies. Monitor regulatory developments, advise management, and communicate updates to stakeholders. Continuously develop technical knowledge of the regulatory framework. Support the CCO and MLRO in regulatory matters and provide updates to senior management and the board. Review policies and training for compliance, implement systems and controls to meet regulatory requirements, and manage external reviews. Manage new token listings, asset vetting, and regulatory escalations. Ensure proper handling of suspicious activity reports and implement policies to prevent unfair trading practices and market abuse. Establish a risk management framework and adopt policies to address conflicts of interest and insider trading.
Requirements
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience working with a financial institution (investment firm / payment service provider / e-money / banking) handling compliance matters, preferably relating to virtual assets services laws and regulations
- Understanding of financial services regulations applicable to virtual asset service providers (VASPs) supervised by the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA) and operating under a VASP license
- In-depth knowledge of regulatory, risk, governance and infrastructure challenges with regards to digital assets, securities, custody and onboarding of digital asset
- Ability to distill and discern important information from regulatory guidance statutes and regulations, audit findings, and other documents and determine how it impacts the business
- Must be able to perform independently and with minimal supervision; Strong bias for action
- Strong organizational skills; Must be multi-tasked oriented and able to balance pressure and deadlines with constantly changing priorities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Responsibilities
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to advance licensing applications, registrations and applicable reporting to regulatory bodies, including preparing data required for the submission of reports and surveys requested by the regulating authorities and law enforcement agencies
- Monitor and review all developments within the regulatory environment of the business; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions
- Ensure that any updates to the legislative and regulatory framework is communicated to all stakeholders and training provided thereto if required
- Continually and actively develop technical knowledge in relation to the regulatory framework governing the company and its activities
- Support CCO and MLRO with all regulatory exams, meetings, and engagements
- Provide ongoing updates to Senior Management and the Board of Directors regarding the overall state of the compliance program
- Assist with the periodic review of policies and training ensuring they are compliant with the applicable regulatory regime in Cayman
- Work with management and staff to ensure that the business implements and maintains suitable systems and controls to meet the regulatory requirements
- Manage external independent reviews and examinations and lead action plans to address findings and recommendations identified internally, by independent reviews or examinations
- Manage new token listing and asset vetting processes
- Review and further investigate EDD, market abuse, adverse media, PEP and sanction-related escalations
- Ensure proper and timely handling and filing of suspicious activity reports
- Implement pricing policies and procedures to prevent unfair trading practices and market abuse
- Oversee complaints and marketing materials for regulatory alignment
- Establish a risk management framework that identifies, assesses, mitigates, and monitors all internal and external risks that may materially impact the business and operations
- Adopt a conflicts of interest policy to prevent, identify, manage, and disclose conflicts of interest; and
- Adopt policies and procedures to counter-insider trading and to ensure that the entity is acting in the best interests of its clients
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience interacting with local regulators a plus
- Knowledge of virtual financial assets and banking is preferred
- Ability to work within a matrixed environment and cross functionally with operations and technology functions
