Summary

Join Newsweek as a Deputy Weekend Editor and lead our national and international news coverage on Saturdays and Sundays. You will be responsible for assigning, editing, and publishing stories on a wide range of topics, from breaking news to in-depth features. You will oversee breaking news coverage and ensure accuracy, engagement, and informativeness. Collaboration with reporters, editors, and producers across various platforms is essential. This role reports to the Weekend Editor. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree and at least five years of experience in reporting or editing, preferably in a digital media environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, political science or related field
  • At least five years of experience as a reporter or editor, preferably in a digital media environment
  • Strong knowledge of US politics and the major issues affecting the country
  • Excellent news judgment and editing skills, with an eye for detail, accuracy and clarity

Responsibilities

  • Plan, assign and edit stories across news, politics, international news, entertainment news and trends
  • Monitor news sources and social media for breaking news and emerging trends
  • Coordinate with reporters, editors and multimedia producers to ensure timely and comprehensive coverage
  • Write headlines, captions and summaries that capture the essence and impact of the stories
  • Ensure that all stories adhere to our editorial standards and guidelines
