Summary

Join AbbVie as the Director, Clinical Site Management – US Oncology, a key leadership role overseeing site management and monitoring for internal and external partners. You will strategically and operationally manage clinical operations and clinical site management activities for Oncology clinical trials in the US, implementing AbbVie's vision and objectives. Accountabilities include country clinical trial performance, strategic planning, and directing the country team to ensure timely, budget-conscious, and high-quality study delivery. You will foster collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, advancing clinical research and accelerating the development of innovative medicines. This role demands leadership, strategic direction, and oversight of US Oncology, including workforce development and expansion of the country site footprint. You will also be responsible for ensuring inspection readiness and driving continuous improvement in country-level performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or equivalent degree required
  • Minimum 10 years of Pharma‐related/ clinical research related experience
  • Minimum of 5 years applicable work experience in a lead capacity with mentoring /supervisory/leadership experience in a country-based capacity, and at least 3 years of experience in clinical site monitoring, demonstrating a high level of core, technical, and leadership competencies through setting and driving strategy and leading the management and completion of multiple, complex clinical studies
  • Advanced leadership skills with experience in a cross-functional global team environment with experience in managing virtual teams and an ability to influence and align stakeholders, and be a model and driver of AbbVie’s leadership attributes
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to evaluate complex issues from multiple perspectives and drive smart decision making. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate persuasively and with clarity, flexibility, and adaptability to changing requirements, resourcefulness, and creativity
  • Strong leadership competencies. Robust experience in leading teams through change, leveraging team contribution to support business strategies. Gives guidance and inspiration to their direct reports and teammates

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership, strategic direction and oversight for US Oncology including accountability for growing and developing a world class workforce that role models the AbbVie behaviors
  • Continuously assess the country site footprint for US Oncology to support the expansion where there are opportunities and needs to drive the pipeline
  • Partners with internal stakeholders to drive insightful and impactful interactions and promote the value of the clinical research team through the contribution to the R&D portfolio success
  • Ensures Country personnel engage in early planning and processes for determining resources, timelines, and budgets for global clinical studies and programs to ensure that plans can be executed as per study commitments
  • Ensures Inspection Readiness across all activities, through leadership and oversight, and successful implementation of quality-driven initiatives. Responsible for the development of a critical thinking organization, focused on gap assessment, risk identification and mitigation strategy
  • Accountable for the on-time and high-quality execution of all clinical trials for US Oncology
  • Accountable for ensuring Clinical Site Management leadership, collaboration, and teamwork across all key stakeholders within the Country/Therapeutic Area; Represents Clinical Site Management through partnership with relevant R&D functions. Leads/contributes to enterprise or regional initiatives to support the organizational mission and goals
  • Drives a learning environment and ensures continuous improvement in country-level performance by using innovative approaches, analysis of key risk and performance indicators, metrics, milestones, and benchmarking to drive world-class clinical execution. Proactively identifies improvement opportunities, champions critical path management by driving simplicity in processes and enhancing agility
  • Accountable for the identification of resource needs, management of the allocated resources and timely hiring of clinical research staff to support clinical trials execution. Responsible for maintaining team capacity aligned with organizational needs, applying flexible and effective approaches for responsibilities assignment, that promotes staff development and retention
  • Defines and implements the optimal team organizational structure to support the needs of the business which allows the team to operate in a matrix and evolving environment, ensuring effective collaboration with key capabilities and roles. Identifies and implements strategies and tactics to ensure continuous efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity of the team
  • Responsible for building a high-performing, motivated team, accountable for the operational excellence in the execution of clinical trials through effective leadership, coaching and people management, ensuring an objective and performance-led management culture, aligned with AbbVie leadership behaviors
