Director of Engineering

Summary

Join our team as the Director of Engineering and lead the development and scaling of our next-generation B2B and B2C travel tech platforms. This hands-on leadership role requires driving architecture, innovation, and engineering excellence. You will modernize and expand our systems, including Online Booking Engines (OBEs), eCommerce platforms, and more. As a key technology partner, you'll collaborate with various teams to align technology with company goals. This is a remote position open to LATAM-based candidates, offering a competitive salary paid in USD as an independent contractor.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering & architecture, with 4+ years in a leadership role
• Strong background in travel technology, especially in Online Booking Engines (OBEs), travel eCommerce, and group booking systems
• Expertise in Laravel (PHP), React (Next.js), AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, SNS, SQS, ECS, RDS, S3, Elasticache)
• Experience leading engineering teams, hiring developers, and scaling organizations
• Deep understanding of cloud architecture, microservices, and API-first development
• Proficiency in CI/CD, DevOps, automation, and observability tools (Datadog, CloudWatch)

Responsibilities

• Define and implement the technical roadmap, ensuring scalability, security, and performance
• Build, mentor, and lead a high-performance engineering team, fostering innovation and collaboration
• Architect, develop, and optimize booking engines, CRM systems, eCommerce platforms, and other travel-related solutions
• Overhaul legacy systems and drive the transition to modern architectures
• Implement best practices in CI/CD, automation, monitoring, and observability
• Work closely with product managers, designers, and business leaders to align technology with company goals
• Ensure high availability, fast API performance, and system stability
• Oversee PCI compliance, secure API development, and cloud infrastructure best practices

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience in SaaS, startups, or travel tech (booking engines, itinerary builders, tour operator platforms)
• Knowledge of Machine Learning (ML), AI, LLMs, blockchain
• Experience with Plasmic CMS, Laravel Livewire, GraphQL, advanced caching techniques
• SEO, Core Web Vitals, and front-end performance optimization expertise
