Director, Software Engineering

Summary

Join Samsara's Backend Infrastructure team as an Engineering Director and lead the development and scaling of the cloud infrastructure powering our Connected Operations platform. You will drive the vision and roadmap for our cloud infrastructure, ensuring high technical standards and mentoring engineering managers and senior engineers. This role requires 10+ years of software engineering experience and 7+ years of engineering management experience. You'll build and lead a high-performing team, championing Samsara's cultural principles. The position offers a competitive compensation package including base salary, bonus, RSUs, and benefits. This role is open to US-based candidates outside of the San Francisco Bay Area, NYC Metro Area, and Washington, D.C. Metro Area.

Requirements

• 10+ years of industry experience in software engineering/development
• 7+ years of engineering management experience
• A track record of building high performing software teams
• Willingness to dive-deep and solve challenging technical problems

Responsibilities

• Drive the vision, roadmap and priorities for Samsara’s cloud infrastructure
• Ensure high technical standards through both processes and the culture you instill
• Mentor and grow experienced and early in career engineering managers and senior engineers
• Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices
• Hire, develop and lead an inclusive, engaged, and high performing team

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience managing managers and teams of 30+ engineers
• A customer-focused mindset and good product sense
• 5+ years of experience in SaaS software development roles
• BS in Computer Science or Engineering
• Experience with best practices around testing, monitoring, and SLAs to ensure high product quality in large-scale distributed web services
