Summary

Join NPR, a leading multimedia organization, as an intern for a 28-week full-time opportunity spanning October 6, 2025, to April 17, 2026. This internship offers a unique blend of editorial graphics and web archiving, providing hands-on experience in data visualization, web design, and digital preservation. The first half focuses on creating graphics and visualizations for news stories, while the second involves archiving NPR's digital content. Requirements

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, be attentive to detail and meet deadlines
  • Interest in growth and willingness to respond to professional feedback
  • Demonstrated experience making graphics and designing for the Web. This includes experience with front-end web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, D3) and designing responsively (from big desktop screens to mobile devices)

  • Must be a current student in an accredited degree program or a recent graduate of no more than 12 months from the month of the start of the internship

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop publication-quality graphics and web presentations on a variety of time scales (from short-turnaround requests to longer-term projects)
  • Research, analyze and visualize data for reporting
  • Collaborate with RAD's archivists and technologists to develop NPR’s first web archive
  • Conduct research to help RAD determine best practices around preserving interactives being created currently
  • All work of the intern is to be performed under the close supervision of the host teams

Preferred Qualifications

Comfort with spreadsheets and data (CSV, JSON, etc.). Data analysis and back-end programming (Python or similar) skills a plus
