Summary

Join a cutting-edge engineering firm as an Electrical Designer, designing electrical systems and components for commercial, industrial, and mixed-use building projects. You will utilize AutoCAD, Revit, and other design software to develop detailed schematics and construction documents. Collaboration with engineers, architects, and project managers is key to ensuring accurate and code-compliant designs. This remote position offers a competitive salary and flexible hours, working Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm EST/CST (+/- 1 hour). The ideal candidate possesses strong technical skills, deep knowledge of electrical engineering principles, and a passion for high-quality design work. This is a full-time, long-term independent contractor position.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in electrical design for commercial, institutional, or industrial buildings
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit is required
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, components, and design best practices
  • Familiarity with NEC and relevant local and national building codes
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and construction documents
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical power distribution and lighting systems using AutoCAD, Revit, and other design software
  • Develop detailed schematics, wiring diagrams, layouts, and construction documents
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, and project managers to ensure coordinated, accurate, and code-compliant designs
  • Conduct site visits and review documentation to assess project requirements and existing conditions
  • Perform electrical load calculations, voltage drop, fault current, and arc flash analysis using software such as SKM, EasyPower, and AGI32
  • Select and specify electrical equipment, lighting fixtures, and materials based on project needs and code requirements
  • Interpret and apply National Electrical Code (NEC) standards, local building codes, and other applicable regulations
  • Review submittals, respond to RFIs, and support construction administration as needed
  • Stay current with industry trends, tools, and best practices to drive continuous improvement in design output

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field preferred; relevant certifications a plus
  • Working knowledge of SKM Power Tools, EasyPower, AGI32, Bluebeam, and Navisworks is a plus
