Summary
Join Canva's Messaging Surfaces team as a Team Lead, coaching and mentoring a team of frontend and backend engineers. You will collaborate with the technical lead on ambitious technical problems, work with the Product Manager on the product roadmap, and drive the delivery of large-scale initiatives. The role requires experience in technical leadership, software development, and strong computer science fundamentals. Requirements
- Previous experience in technical people leadership and mentorship of engineers
- Commercial experience in a software development environment, ideally with experience in building frameworks, libraries or APIs
- Firmly grounded computer science and engineering fundamentals including concurrency, multithreading, data structures, solution design, architecture, and design patterns
- Previous experience in working collaboratively with cross functional team members and communicating effectively
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to break large projects down into smaller ones and deliver on them through others
Responsibilities
- Coach, mentor, and grow a team of frontend and backend engineers
- Develop your coaching capability to scale the team and meet the needs of the growing messaging platform vision
- Work alongside the technical lead to facilitate solving some of the most ambitious technical problems, and guiding the team to deliver results
- Work closely with the Product Manager to understand and contribute to the product roadmap
- Drive the planning and refinement of seasonal goals, ensuring there is alignment between the company, group, and teams
- Foster a culture of collaboration and advocate for the engineering needs of non-technical collaborators within the group
- Own and drive the delivery of large, cross-team, and cross-group initiatives and projects from ideation to completion, with autonomy and independence of decision making
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in some of these [Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, MobX] would be valuable but is not required
- Experience with experimentation would be beneficial, but not mandatory
