Summary
Join Grafana Labs as an Engineering Manager and lead a team of distributed engineers. You will foster a productive environment, remove impediments, and facilitate collaboration. The role involves managing projects, mentoring engineers, and making sound technical decisions. You will work closely with product managers and designers, building product intuition and staying informed on technical trends. A strong engineering background is required, along with familiarity with frontend and backend technologies. The position offers a competitive salary and benefits package.
Requirements
- Demonstrate empathy and transparency
- Possess a strong engineering background
- Have familiarity with frontend frameworks (especially TypeScript/React), backend development in Go, and tools like GitHub, Prometheus, Loki, Tempo, and Pyroscope
Responsibilities
- Manage a team of distributed engineers working across a variety of systems and help them to perform at their best
- Coach, mentor, and support engineers in their growth
- Champion a healthy team culture with psychological safety, autonomy, and accountability
- Help the team define goals, set milestones, communicate timelines, and navigate dependencies
- Take on project management responsibilities to ensure smooth and predictable delivery
- Engage in meaningful technical discussions, ask the right questions, and support sound decision-making
- Work with engineering teams who have a strong sense of autonomy in their decision making, be it technical or product focussed
- Collaborate closely with some excellent Product Managers and Product Designers
- Develop a strong product sense and use our products in anger to develop empathy for the user
- Stay up-to-date with the latest technical trends and shifts in order to maintain and enhance your understanding of the challenges your teams face
- Conduct regular 1:1s to ensure your direct reports are motivated, happy, and engaged
- Coach, mentor, and advise upwards, sideways, and every-which-ways
- Provide continuous feedback to engineers to ensure that they can add value, while trying to maintain a high standard
- Contribute to and review design documents for upcoming features
- Ensure features are well-defined and ready for development
- Advise your reports on how to break down features into tasks
- Collaborate with our Engineering Leaders to help define and influence product strategy, roadmaps and technical designs
- Maintain headcount by working with our People Ops team to attract and hire talent
