Engineering Manager - Grafana Drilldown

Join Grafana Labs as an Engineering Manager for the Grafana Drilldown team, a remote position open to applicants in the US Eastern Time Zones. This role focuses on creating a productive environment for engineers, removing impediments, fostering collaboration, and improving team practices. You will manage a distributed team working across various systems, coaching, mentoring, and supporting their growth. The ideal candidate possesses a strong engineering background, enabling meaningful technical discussions and sound decision-making, while also building product intuition through collaboration with product managers and designers. The role involves regular 1:1s, providing continuous feedback, contributing to design documents, ensuring feature readiness, and collaborating with engineering leaders on product strategy. Compensation includes a base salary range of USD 178,503 - USD 214,204, equity, and a bonus (if applicable), along with other benefits.

Responsibilities

• Coach, mentor, and support engineers in their growth
• Champion a healthy team culture with psychological safety, autonomy, and accountability
• Help the team define goals, set milestones, communicate timelines, and navigate dependencies
• Take on project management responsibilities to ensure smooth and predictable delivery
• Engage in meaningful technical discussions, ask the right questions, and support sound decision-making
• Work with engineering teams who have a strong sense of autonomy in their decision making, be it technical or product focussed
• Collaborate closely with some excellent Product Managers and Product Designers
• Develop a strong product sense and use our products in anger to develop empathy for the user
• Stay up-to-date with the latest technical trends and shifts in order to maintain and enhance your understanding of the challenges your teams face
• Conduct Regular 1:1s to ensure your direct reports are motivated, happy, and engaged
• Coach, mentor, and advise. Upwards, sideways, and every-which-ways
• Provide continuous feedback to engineers to ensure that they can add value, while trying to maintain a high standard
• Contribute to and review design documents for upcoming features
• Ensure features are well-defined and ready for development
• Advise your reports on how to break down features into tasks
• Collaborate with our Engineering Leaders to help define and influence product strategy, roadmaps and technical designs
• Maintain headcount by working with our People Ops team to attract and hire talent

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with frontend frameworks (especially TypeScript/React), backend development in Go, and tools like GitHub, Prometheus, Loki, Tempo, and Pyroscope
