Join Grafana Labs as an Engineering Manager for the Grafana Drilldown team, a remote position open to applicants in the Canadian Eastern and Atlantic time zones. You will manage a team of distributed engineers, fostering a productive environment, removing impediments, and promoting collaboration. Responsibilities include coaching and mentoring engineers, driving project delivery, and contributing to product strategy. A strong engineering background is required, although hands-on coding is not. You will collaborate with product managers and designers, staying informed about technical trends. The role involves regular 1:1s, providing feedback, and contributing to design documents. Compensation is CAD 174,176 - CAD 209,011, with additional benefits including equity and bonuses.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of distributed engineers working across a variety of systems and helping them to perform at their best
  • Coach, mentor, and support engineers in their growth
  • Champion a healthy team culture with psychological safety, autonomy, and accountability
  • Help the team define goals, set milestones, communicate timelines, and navigate dependencies
  • Take on project management responsibilities to ensure smooth and predictable delivery
  • Work with engineering teams who have a strong sense of autonomy in their decision making, be it technical or product focussed
  • Collaborate closely with some excellent Product Managers and Product Designers
  • Develop a strong product sense and use our products in anger to develop empathy for the user
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest technical trends and shifts in order to maintain and enhance your understanding of the challenges your teams face
  • Regular 1:1s to ensure your direct reports are motivated, happy, and engaged
  • Coach, mentor, and advise. Upwards, sideways, and every-which-ways
  • Provide continuous feedback to engineers to ensure that they can add value, while trying to maintain a high standard
  • Contribute to and review design documents for upcoming features
  • Ensure features are well-defined and ready for development
  • Advise your reports on how to break down features into tasks
  • Collaborate with our Engineering Leaders to help define and influence product strategy, roadmaps and technical designs
  • Maintain headcount by working with our People Ops team to attract and hire talent

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with frontend frameworks (especially TypeScript/React), backend development in Go, and tools like GitHub, Prometheus, Loki, Tempo, and Pyroscope
