Engineering Manager

Summary

Join Quorum, a leading provider of workflow software for government affairs professionals, as an Engineering Manager on the Data team! Based in Washington, D.C., you will coach, manage, and support a team of 4-6 full-stack engineers. This hands-on role requires technical roadmap planning and execution, collaborating with the Data Product Manager. You'll dedicate approximately 50% of your time to hands-on coding and technical guidance. The Data team focuses on implementing and maintaining data scrapers and spiders, ensuring high data quality and meeting SLAs. Requirements

• 5+ years of relevant experience, including 2+ years as an Engineering Manager
• Experience with web scraping, spiders and web crawlers
• Experience with data modeling in relational & non-relational databases, data quality, data integration, search, data visualization, and performance tuning
• Expertise in Quorum’s front-end and backend technologies, including Python, React (or similar Javascript framework), PostgreSQL, ElasticSearch, AWS, and Linux
• Experience with cloud-native architectures
• Excellent communication skills, including good English
• Strong project management skills as demonstrated by a strong track record of successfully completed complex technical projects that were directly owned by you
• Belief that engineering management is a different but equal function to software engineering and excitement about tackling the day-to-day challenges of motivating, managing, and supporting engineers
• Experience with US-based companies and hybrid teams
• Approximately 50% hands-on development time

Responsibilities

• Coach, manage, and support a team of 4-6 full-stack engineers
• Own the technical roadmap planning and execution in collaboration with the Data Product Manager
• Provide hands-on coding and technical guidance (approximately 50% of any given week)
• Delegate technical tasks
• Deliver high-quality results and work through challenges and obstacles
• Manage expectations with various stakeholders
• Implement and maintain data scrapers and spiders
• Meet agreed-upon SLAs with clients
• Uphold high data quality standards
• Work closely with an onboarding mentor to complete the standard engineering onboarding process and learn to ship new code to production to understand the end-to-end tech stack and software development lifecycle (First Week)
• Be up and running with your standard managerial practices and processes, learn the ins and outs of Quorum’s Core products, technical strategy, roadmap, and challenges, and get to know the members of your team, product managers and other leaders on the technology team (First Month)
• Fully own the planning and execution of the Data team and technical roadmap and milestones. Mentor and coach existing team members to improve their skills and help bring on new team members into the organization (First Six Months)
• Ensure your team successfully improves data quality and stability for scrapers, reflecting a steadfast commitment to meeting agreed-upon Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with clients (First Year)
