Engineering Manager - Content Enrichment

Join Canva's Content Enrichment team as an Engineering Team Lead and coach a high-performing team of backend and machine learning engineers. You will define the team's vision, guide strategic delivery, and collaborate with various teams to enhance content discoverability. Lead and support engineers, shape the team's technical architecture, and embed a culture of operational excellence. Collaborate across teams to deliver impactful solutions and represent your team in strategic initiatives. This role requires leadership experience guiding backend engineers, passion for coaching, deep engineering expertise (ideally in microservices, search, or content systems), experience designing scalable systems, and cross-functional collaboration skills. Requirements

• You have leadership experience guiding backend engineers through complex product and technical challenges
• You’re passionate about coaching and developing engineers, creating a culture of growth and support
• You bring deep engineering expertise, ideally with experience in microservices, search, or content systems
• You’re experienced in designing systems at scale, with a focus on reliability, performance, and extensibility
• You collaborate cross-functionally and thrive in partnerships with product, ML, and content stakeholders
• You think strategically and deliver pragmatically, balancing long-term vision with immediate needs

Responsibilities

• Lead and support backend and machine learning engineers driving our content enrichment platforms
• Shape the team’s vision, strategy, and technical architecture to scale with Canva’s content growth
• Coach and mentor engineers to do the best work of their lives
• Collaborate across content and product teams to deliver impactful, user-facing solutions
• Embed a culture of operational excellence and continuous technical innovation
• Represent your team across supergroup forums and strategic initiatives
