Summary
Join Williamsburg Academy of Colorado (WAC) as an ELL Mentor, supporting English Language Learner (ELL) students in their academic growth, language development, and cultural integration. This remote position involves assessing student proficiency, developing individualized learning plans, providing direct instruction, and collaborating with teachers, administrators, and families. You will also be responsible for supporting mentors in adapting lessons, monitoring student progress, and ensuring compliance with ELL education guidelines. Additionally, you will serve as a liaison between families and the school, providing resources and support. This position may also involve substitute teaching, leading school clubs, or assisting with grading.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Special Education
- Possess a valid Colorado Special Education teaching license within four (4) months of hire date. If license transfer from another state is required, the process for transfer must be initiated within the test fit period of ninety (90) days
- Minimum of two (2) years experience in the field of Special Education
- Proven experience working with school staff, students, and their families
- Advocacy skills and the ability to work with other staff members to achieve WAC’s Standards of Excellence
- Ability to respond effectively to the needs of diverse students and families
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in a digital environment
- High degree of flexibility with an aggressive growth mindset
- Proficiency in Google Suite (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Drive, etc.)
- Experience using Zoom, Canvas, and/or other online teaching tools
- Ability to pass a background check
Responsibilities
- Assess the English proficiency levels of incoming ELL students and develop individualized learning plans (ILP) based on their needs
- Assist with administering language proficiency assessments, such as WIDA, and help prepare students for state testing
- Participate in IEP meetings as needed for ELL students
- Provide direct instruction to ELL students to improve their English language skills, focusing on reading, writing, speaking, and listening
- Maintain accurate records of ELL student progress, assessments, and communications in accordance with school policies
- Support mentors in adapting lessons and materials to meet the needs of ELL students
- Monitor student progress and make necessary adjustments to learning plans to ensure continued growth and success
- Collaborate with school staff and administration to ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines for ELL education
- Provide professional development to staff on best practices for working with ELL students in an online environment
- Help develop the WAC process for identifying and supporting ELL students
- Serve as a liaison between families and the school, providing support and resources to help ELL families navigate the educational system
