Summary

Join our Processor Development team as an Experimental Physicist II (Coherence Measurement) and contribute to our understanding of sources of noise and decoherence in our quantum processors through careful measurement of superconducting qubits.

Requirements

• Ph.D. or M.Sc. in physics or a related discipline, or equivalent experimental research experience
• Background in quantum information, control of quantum systems or magnetic resonance methods (such as NMR or ESR)
• Strong critical thinking and technical problem solving ability
• Curiosity and persistence that enable you to learn new technical topics in depth, as evidenced by a deep understanding of your existing area(s) of expertise
• Strong experience with software in the context of a physical lab – particularly in writing code to control experiments; software engineering skills would be an asset
• A collaborative mindset and a demonstrated ability to work effectively on an interdisciplinary team and take shared accountability for its success
• Excellent communication skills and experience with summarizing technical information for a broad audience
• Ability to adapt to shifting priorities in a time-sensitive environment, while maintaining focus on challenging problems

Responsibilities

• Create and execute experimental procedures, analysis routines and noise models to characterize and understand coherence in superconducting qubits
• Propose and develop parametric designs, materials changes and/or experimental methodologies to improve coherence and thereby processor performance
• Investigate and diagnose interactions between superconducting circuits, IO, electronics, cryogenic elements, etc. that impact noise performance
• Share your results and ideas with the broader PD team through regular and clear documentation
• Create and contribute to Lisp software infrastructure for modeling, calibrating and operating qubits and processors
