Summary

Responsibilities include reviewing documentation for inpatient coding, assigning appropriate ICD-10 - CM/PCS and CPT codes, and communicating with healthcare providers. Required skills are RHIT/RHIA plus 3 years of acute care coding experience or 5 years acute care coding experience with CCS or CIC certification.

• 5 years acute care coding experience with CCS or CIC certification

Responsibilities

• Review documentation for Inpatient Coding
• Abstract clinical information from medical records, charts and documents
• Assign appropriate ICD-10 - CM/PCS and CPT codes to patient records
• Confirm DRG assignments
• Correspond with other areas of the HIM department for accurate coding and quality of patient's medical record
• Maintain an accuracy rate of not less than 95% based on internal and/or external review
• Attend meetings as required and strive to improve the quality of meetings
• Participate in educational programs, in-services, and training sessions
• Determine the appropriate sequencing of diseases, diagnoses, and surgeries
• Query physicians for correct assignment of MS/APR DRGs
• Communicate with department manager or client on coding, compliance, and documentation issues
• Seek clarification from healthcare providers or other designated resources to ensure accurate and complete coding
• Enhance coding knowledge and skills with continuing education activities and by reviewing pertinent literature
