Join TrueNet Communications as a Remote Hybrid Fiber Coax Designer II & III! This 40-hour-per-week, Monday-Friday position is 100% remote. You will design, plot, and map fiber node placement for HFC and fiber optic networks, creating accurate network maps and construction prints. Responsibilities include preparing bills of materials, updating as-builts, and performing cost analysis. You will also make design decisions based on regulations and cost-effectiveness, troubleshoot systems, and collaborate with other departments. This role requires strong knowledge of radio frequency and power design, along with excellent communication and collaboration skills. Requirements
- Must have a GIS degree or a minimum of 7 years industry experience in the field of GIS
- Hybrid Fiber Coax Designer II- 3 years of design experience or a minimum of 7 years industry experience in the field of Engineering, Maintenance or Construction
- Hybrid Fiber Coax Designer III - 5 years of design experience or a minimum of 10 years industry experience in the field of Engineering, Maintenance or Construction
- HS diploma, GED or relevant work experience
- Requires strong knowledge of radio frequency, power design, coax network design, network powering, video fiber design and commercial fiber design
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, relationship building, self-motivation, resourcefulness, self-starter, time management, organization, attention to detail, quality orientation, and collaborative skills to work effectively with teams throughout the organization
Responsibilities
- Designs, coordinates plotting and mapping, and determines fiber node placement requirements for hybrid fiber-coax (HFC) and fiber optic networks
- Creates accurate network maps, layouts, drawings, and detailed electronic construction prints
- Develops and maintains network specification files
- Performs cost analysis for trenching, sweeping, node splits and upgrade projects
- Prepares high-level bill of materials using mapping software
- Updates As-Builts as construction is completed and releases the area
- Creates accurate network maps and detailed electronic construction prints
- Prepares layouts, drawings, and designs according to engineering specifications using applicable design software
- Demonstrates basic ability and clear understanding of Radio Frequency and Power design
- Provides ongoing support to other departments as needed in the effective use of all peripheral applications
- Makes design decisions regarding construction and safety methods according to appropriate Vendor, FCC, OSHA, NEC, MESC, VDOT, BOCA, Land Use Manual, and local, state, and federal regulations and procedures and may be responsible for creation of design permitting for state agencies
- May perform quality checks of mapping and network design and negotiate/approve design and/or construction changes
- May estimate material and labor costs for special projects for fiber and coax up to the patch panel or customer premise
- May be responsible for fiber availability and ring capacity checks and determination of reinforcement requirements
- May coordinate project planning and site surveys with sales personnel, utility companies and Vendor crews as necessary to include designing service to new and existing residential properties and commercial facilities
- Troubleshoots and analyzes system fiber utilizing CWDM technology
- Demonstrates proficiency in all aspects of network design and powering, reviews fiber ring capacity with supervision, plans and coordinates projects to ensure backbone is available for launch or product deployment
- May plan the splicing of coax and fiber optics, as well as the allocation and activation of fiber
- Calculates forward and reverse RF levels to provide adequate signal for VVD and digital services
- Makes design decisions and determines equipment requirements based on specifications, cost effectiveness, reliability, and planning for future growth
- Calculates powering loads at 90 Volts with consideration for NIU penetration and proposes power supply and generator locations for optimum performance
- Determines power cable requirements based on DC loop resistance
- Designs for status monitoring equipment at power supply and end of line locations
- Supports technical staff in troubleshooting plant problems and designing for conflict resolution
- Processes fiber availability requests, estimates and ring capacity checks, engineers’ fiber conversion projects and determines reinforcement requirements
- Quality checks mapping and network design files to ensure correct and optimum use of RF and Power network components to minimize construction costs, enhance network reliability, and minimize maintenance needs
- Develops and maintains network specification files for different design architectures through the research of component distortion specifications and operating levels to allow for the use of multiple types of equipment in HFC Access design
- Builds good rapport language to eliminate outside utilities
- Builds good internal and external working relationships
Preferred Qualifications
- AS/AA or Technical Certification in related discipline desired (i.e., Design, Drafting, Electronics, Civil Engineering)
- Experience in HFC or Fiber Design
- Prefer certification in GIS technologies or electrical engineering
- Experience in telecommunications industry desired
