As a rapidly growing company, we seek a dynamic individual with a quantitative background in hydrology to solve complex problems in natural catastrophe and statistical modeling. You will leverage your expertise with large datasets and programming to contribute to diverse projects, crafting innovative solutions and interpreting results for clients and internal studies. The role involves developing and enhancing flood models, refining datasets, creating simulated flood events, and collaborating on code development. You will present data analysis findings to team members and ensure quality assurance throughout projects. This is a remote position with a preference for candidates in Austin, TX or Boston, MA.

Requirements

  • M.S. or PhD degree in a quantitative or applied scientific field such as atmospheric sciences or hydrology, or a B.S. degree and 3+ years of equivalent practical experience
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as R, FORTRAN, BASH scripting, Python, C++, or CUDA
  • Strong data analysis and management skills
  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), e.g., QGIS, GRASS, GDAL as well as processing GIS files using scripting languages R and/or Python
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and enhance country and region-wide flood models
  • Create programs and processes to refine existing data sets, including precipitation, temperature, streamflow, and digital elevation models (DEMs)
  • Assist in creating simulated and near-real-time high-resolution flood events
  • Collaboratively write code to manipulate and analyze complex numeric or geographic data sets
  • Utilize the KatRisk Software Suite and interpret results for client and internal studies
  • Present data analysis findings to team members with diverse scientific and statistical backgrounds
  • Ensure quality assurance throughout projects

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of LINUX user environment and command-line operation
  • Experience with physically based, continental scale hydrologic models, including development, calibration, and analysis
  • Experience in the analysis of climate change impacts on hydrological models
  • Additional applicable work experience
