Freelance Reader

Summary

Join our team as a freelance reader to discover and evaluate innovative crime fiction novels. You will read forthcoming titles, provide insightful feedback, and advocate for exceptional books. This role requires a deep understanding of crime fiction, strong communication skills, and the ability to read at a fast pace. Ideal candidates will be familiar with the Book of the Month brand and passionate about championing emerging authors. The position offers the opportunity to shape our selection process and contribute to the success of Book of the Month.

Requirements

• Be a fast reader who can read at least 3 books a week, ideally more
• Possess deep knowledge of and familiarity with crime fiction and its sub-genres
• Be a savvy written communicator
• Have familiarity with the Book of the Month brand and excitement to help us pursue our mission
• Have at least 1 year of experience reading and evaluating books in a professional context

Responsibilities

• Read forthcoming manuscripts as assigned and evaluate their potential for the Book of the Month audience
• Note: you may also propose titles that you source yourself
• Submit written feedback and recommendations in the provided format
• Advocate clearly and strongly for titles you believe are excellent and will be great fits for Book of the Month
• Accurately weed out titles that are not strong enough to be Book of the Month selections
• Attend calls to discuss reading as requested
