Requirements
- Undergrad required; Masters or PhD within an engineering discipline preferred
- 5+ years of automotive, robotics, aerospace or related industry experience
- Experience with functional safety and systems engineering in complex safety critical fields
- Experience with standards such as ISO 26262, SOTIF (ISO 21448) and / or UL 4600
- Experience with failure and fault analysis such as DFMEA, FTA, or STPA
- Strong fundamentals in mathematics, engineering and physics
- Ability to communicate complex concepts or data in a simple-yet-accurate manner
- Excellent data analysis skills with modern tools such as Python or Matlab
- Open-minded and collaborative team player with the willingness to help others
- Passionate about self-driving technologies, solving hard problems, and creating innovative solutions
Responsibilities
- Lead and own all functional safety topics at Waabi with a strong focus on software quality
- Define a holistic, effective and yet simple fallback management approach
- Oversee the strict implementation of the fallback management approach
- Act as a central point of contact at Waabi for all matters related to functional safety
- Communicate updates, progress and potential roadblocks to stakeholders at all levels
- Help drive Waabi’s safety culture through application of safety standards and methodologies
- Define the overall functional safety concept for the self-driving system
- Assist with evidence generation by hands on performing hazard and safety analysis in accordance to applicable guidelines
- Continuously evaluate and enhance Waabi’s functional safety processes and fallback management system
- Look for novel approaches, identify and apply lessons learned
- Ensure a detailed and comprehensive functional safety documentation that is easily accessible
- Implement tools and methodologies to streamline and automate functional safety processes where applicable
- Work with external partners on integrating and verifying functional safety of the complete self-driving system
- Lead or assist in functional safety audits and assessments
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications related to functional safety
- Experience in leading small teams of functional safety engineers
- Experience in the automotive self driving industry
- Experience building software systems from scratch
- Experience in robotics or machine learning
- Proficiency with data mining, mathematics, and statistical analysis
