Functional Safety and Fallback Management Lead

Requirements

• Undergrad required; Masters or PhD within an engineering discipline preferred
• 5+ years of automotive, robotics, aerospace or related industry experience
• Experience with functional safety and systems engineering in complex safety critical fields
• Experience with standards such as ISO 26262, SOTIF (ISO 21448) and / or UL 4600
• Experience with failure and fault analysis such as DFMEA, FTA, or STPA
• Strong fundamentals in mathematics, engineering and physics
• Ability to communicate complex concepts or data in a simple-yet-accurate manner
• Excellent data analysis skills with modern tools such as Python or Matlab
• Open-minded and collaborative team player with the willingness to help others
• Passionate about self-driving technologies, solving hard problems, and creating innovative solutions

Responsibilities

• Lead and own all functional safety topics at Waabi with a strong focus on software quality
• Define a holistic, effective and yet simple fallback management approach
• Oversee the strict implementation of the fallback management approach
• Act as a central point of contact at Waabi for all matters related to functional safety
• Communicate updates, progress and potential roadblocks to stakeholders at all levels
• Help drive Waabi’s safety culture through application of safety standards and methodologies
• Define the overall functional safety concept for the self-driving system
• Assist with evidence generation by hands on performing hazard and safety analysis in accordance to applicable guidelines
• Continuously evaluate and enhance Waabi’s functional safety processes and fallback management system
• Look for novel approaches, identify and apply lessons learned
• Ensure a detailed and comprehensive functional safety documentation that is easily accessible
• Implement tools and methodologies to streamline and automate functional safety processes where applicable
• Work with external partners on integrating and verifying functional safety of the complete self-driving system
• Lead or assist in functional safety audits and assessments

Preferred Qualifications

• Certifications related to functional safety
• Experience in leading small teams of functional safety engineers
• Experience in the automotive self driving industry
• Experience building software systems from scratch
• Experience in robotics or machine learning
• Proficiency with data mining, mathematics, and statistical analysis
