Generalist/Full Stack Engineer

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, plus at least four (4) years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Experience in full-stack development with modern web technologies
• Proficiency in React, Node.js, TypeScript, and Express.js
• Experience working with Drupal, GraphQL, PostgreSQL, or similar technologies
• Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and CI/CD pipelines
• Strong understanding of web security best practices and performance optimization
• Experience working in Agile development environments with cross-functional teams
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain full-stack web applications supporting VA.gov’s facilities and public website
• Build and optimize React-based front-end components and integrate with Drupal-powered backends
• Develop and maintain RESTful and GraphQL APIs for seamless data exchange
• Support cloud infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines to enhance system performance and deployment efficiency
• Implement and maintain accessibility standards (Section 508, WCAG 2.2 AA) to ensure compliance
• Collaborate with UX researchers, designers, and content teams to create intuitive digital experiences
• Participate in Agile sprints, code reviews, technical discussions, and knowledge-sharing
• Other relevant duties for which you are qualified and trained

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with federal digital services, civic tech, or government projects
• Familiarity with Next.js, Metalsmith, or other VA.gov technologies
• Experience with DevOps practices and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Background in site performance optimization and security hardening for large-scale web applications
