Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geography, or a related field
  • 4+ years in a strong understanding of GIS concepts and principles
  • Proficiency in GIS software such as Esri ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar platforms
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, or Java
  • A strong background in geospatial technology, with expertise in metadata standards, ISO standards, and Survey123
  • Familiarity with geospatial data formats (e.g., shapefiles, GeoJSON, KML) and spatial databases (e.g., PostgreSQL/PostGIS, Oracle Spatial)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience with web mapping libraries/frameworks (e.g., Leaflet, Mapbox, ArcGIS API for JavaScript)
  • Knowledge of geospatial analysis techniques and tools
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git)
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) and GIS cloud services
  • Previous experience or coursework in software development or GIS development projects
  • Due to the nature of the work we support, all candidates in consideration for this role must be U.S. Citizens willing to undergo the government issued background investigation process

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and development of GIS applications, tools, and workflows
  • Collaborate with team members to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications
  • Develop and maintain geospatial databases and data models
  • Implement data visualization techniques to present spatial information effectively
  • Conduct testing and debugging to ensure the reliability and performance of GIS applications
  • Support the deployment and integration of GIS solutions with existing systems
  • Stay updated on emerging GIS technologies and best practices
  • Research new and innovative ways to capture, integrate, filter and display data from many different sources and methods
  • Work with extremely short timelines
