Requirements
- Bachelor's science-based degree (e.g., food science, microbiology, biology, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, engineering)
- 10+ years working experience in sanitation management within the food industry
- Strong background in regulatory compliance
- Extensive knowledge of sanitation methods, cleaning agents, technologies, sanitation equipment and hygienic design knowledge as must
- Experience leading teams and managing cross-functional projects
- Experience with development and delivering training programs
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English)
- Must have knowledge of microbiology and food safety
- Must be able to work off shifts, i.e. nights, to align with sanitation processes when needed
Responsibilities
- Develop and oversee the H&W sanitation and hygienic design strategy for both internal sites and external manufacturing partners
- Lead and resolve day-to-day sanitation challenges while driving continuous improvements in procedures and hygienic design
- Design and implement sanitation protocols, leveraging advanced technologies and methods to reduce water usage, enhance cleaning efficiency, and lower sanitation costs
- Evaluate sanitation and hygienic design practices at H&W manufacturing sites, identify areas for improvement, and address gaps to ensure food safety and production quality
- Provide technical expertise to manufacturing sites, fostering capability development, knowledge-sharing, and a robust quality culture
- Establish standards and lead the hygienic restoration of new production lines and post-incident operations
- Develop and execute sanitation validation and verification processes to define sanitation frequency requirements
- Conduct comprehensive audits to assess compliance with sanitation procedures, safety standards, and teardown practices
- Analyse performance, provide consulting, and deliver training to enhance the skills and performance of sanitation teams
- Respond to sanitation emergencies, guiding the implementation of corrective and preventive actions
- Define and manage KPIs, implementing data-driven approaches to monitor sanitation and food safety program performance
- Serve as the primary liaison for managing relationships with external sanitation providers and consultants
- Act as the central point of contact between business units, manufacturing sites, sanitation chemical providers, and consulting firms
- Develop and maintain communication channels to ensure effective collaboration among stakeholders, addressing daily operational needs and sanitation-related issues
- Function as a strategic partner to business units, providing education, consultation, and influence to align with priorities and drive initiatives
- Provide on-site support, supervising and coordinating contractors and associates involved in food safety, cleaning, and sanitation activities (e.g., PRIMP support, hygienic restoration)
- Enhance business profitability by optimizing sanitation efficiency through improved cleaning methods, standard practices, training, validation processes, extended production runs, and identifying cost-saving opportunities
- Act as a subject matter expert in GMP, sanitation, and hygienic design to guide best practices
- Represent H&W requirements at Mars Corporate and Mars Snacking, contributing to sanitation and hygienic design decision-making processes and ensuring consistency in approaches and practices
- Collaborate with Operations and Engineering to support new line initiatives and modifications to existing equipment, ensuring food safety, prolonged production runs, and improved operational efficiency
Preferred Qualifications
- Auditing experience is advantageous
- Fluent Spanish is advantageous for this role
- USA based candidates are preferred
