Requirements

  • Ability to efficiently write and edit content according to specific guidelines, in short timeframes and in collaboration with others
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Experience working as a member of a team to develop and complete projects under tight deadlines. Ability to work effectively with a variety of people at various levels within an organization
  • Excellent word processing skills and ability to learn in-house and enterprise software systems
  • Excellent organizational skills and experience budgeting time, scheduling and tracking projects, and managing multiple projects with multiple phases at one time. Ability to work independently, prioritize assignments, and involve managers as necessary to accomplish daily tasks
  • Commitment to continuously deepening and evolving your own understanding of systems of oppression through study, openness, and humility. Ability to recognize your own relationship to privilege and power, examining and shifting your behaviors as appropriate

Responsibilities

  • Prepare grant proposals, working with various staff members to ensure proposals are well-written, engaging, persuasive, accurate, and aligned with Sierra Club priorities
  • Prepare reports for foundations, corporations, and major donors on grant-funded activity, collaborating with relevant staff
  • Advise Chapter staff on developing effective content for projects and reports, and on which Sierra Club staff to consult for fundraising strategy, budgets, compliance, etc
  • Stay updated on current foundation, corporate, and major donor grant-making priorities and Sierra Club priorities, tailoring proposals and reports accordingly
  • Coordinate the submission of proposals and reports to foundations by working with regional gift officers
  • Help prepare and update training materials and conduct training for chapter staff and volunteers on proposal writing
  • Assist with grants administration tasks, including using the Salesforce Grants Management System, maintaining schedules, filing documents, managing tasks, tracking grant awards, and updating files

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven experience writing/editing grant proposals, technical/scientific reports, or other fundraising documents
  • Knowledge of conservation issues

Benefits

  • Salary: $62,000 annually
  • Standard Overtime: Position occasionally requires overtime work to meet funding deadlines, trainings, and occasional special events. Known deadlines and special events-related overtime can generally be planned in advance. Overtime will rarely exceed 10 hours a week for two weeks in a row. Overtime due to unanticipated funding opportunities is not predictable, and may require additional short-term efforts
  • Collective bargaining unit representation and subject to contract terms with Progressive Workers Union or Sierra Employee Alliance
