Join SB Energy, a leading renewable energy company, as an IEMS SCADA Engineer. This role involves assisting in the development, demonstration, and deployment of an intelligent energy management system (IEMS), primarily focused on supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA). You will work with hardware integration, AI-based algorithm development, test plan creation, performance analysis, and deployment into commercial plants. The position offers exposure to various business units and opportunities to influence strategic decisions. Based in Denver, CO (preferred) or remotely, this role requires up to 10% domestic travel. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in SCADA systems within the renewable energy sector and experience with various technologies and software.
Requirements
- Minimum four (4) years’ professional experience in engineering or technical role in renewable energy
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in SCADA systems, preferably in the renewable energy sector, with a focus on solar and battery storage
- B.S. Engineering from ABET-accredited University or other technical degree
- Proficient in Ignition, Canary Labs, SEL Hardware & Software, GE RX3i, Data Loggers, Meteorological Equipment, etc
- Knowledge of networking and cybersecurity practices related to industrial control systems
- Experience implementing innovations on large-scale renewable energy projects and managing small-scale field demonstrations
- Broad experience across new solar technologies, energy storage, or application of artificial intelligence / machine learning to renewable energy
- Demonstrated strong engineering, design, and communication skills, and an ability to work in a dynamic team environment to think outside the box and solve traditional problems in new ways
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills
- Self-starter with ability to prioritize efforts and drive towards completion

- Ability to contextualize and understand modeling results and effectively able to present results
- The position requires up to 10% domestic travel
- If not based near Denver, CO, frequent travel to SB Energy’s Innovation Center may be required
Responsibilities
- Assist control and data acquisition integration of hardware, such as inverters, storage, and compute loads, at the Innovation Center and commercial plants
- Assist development of artificial intelligence (AI) based algorithms to control hardware at the Innovation Center and commercial plants
- Develop test plans, implement control algorithms, and oversee the tests
- Analyze performance of control algorithms, report on the results, and recommend improvements
- Assist deployment of effective control algorithms into commercial plants
- Assist operations of commercial plants where control algorithms are deployed
- Provide SCADA subject matter expertise support during the design, contracting, construction, commissioning and operations of solar and energy storage projects (e.g. design package reviews, equipment selection, supporting ISO’s energization testing, etc.)
- Lead SCADA-related projects, including system/feature upgrades and expansions, coordinating with internal teams and external contractors to ensure timely and on-budget completion
- Perform other job duties as assigned
- Identify technologies for evaluation and ideate new opportunities based on business need
- Evaluate the potential for technologies to increase company value, such as through performing techno-economic analyses, developing and/or running models and simulations, gathering information through first-hand interviews, field visits, and literature reviews
- Create presentations and present to stakeholders, including, for example, potential value of new technologies, test plans, results from field demonstrations, and more
- Assist deployment of innovations into large-scale commercial projects

Masters or Doctorate degree a plus and counts towards professional experience
