Summary
Join Newsela's Research Team as an intern and partner with the Lead Research Analyst to investigate and document Newsela's educational effectiveness. Leverage your statistical and technical expertise to conduct quantitative research on student outcomes and develop reports showcasing Newsela's impact. This part-time, fully remote internship is ideal for graduate students or early-career researchers seeking to apply and develop their skills in an industry setting. The 10-week internship (February-May 2025) offers a competitive hourly rate of $35. This role provides valuable experience in educational research and data analysis.
Requirements
- Research experience in any of the following fields: learning analytics / educational data mining, education, psychology, communications, child development, cognitive science, or related field
- Fluency using R for statistical analysis and data visualization (especially tidyverse)
- Experience using SQL in an applied setting (i.e., outside of an academic or online course)
- Fundamental statistics knowledge and skills
- Strong data visualization skills (ggplot2)
- Background or interest in educational research

Responsibilities
- Partner closely with the Lead Research Analyst to help investigate and document Newselaβs educational effectiveness
- Leverage your statistical and technical expertise to conduct quantitative research on student outcomes
- Use your data visualization and communication skills to develop reports that showcase how Newsela helps kids achieve
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with markdown syntax (e.g., Rmarkdown)
- Experience preparing data visualizations for audiences with varying data literacy
- Experience with multilevel/hierarchical modeling
Benefits
- The internship is fully remote
- Part-time (20 hours per week)
- With a duration of 10 weeks (to take place between February and May 2025; specific start and end dates are flexible)
- Total compensation will be based on hours worked at a rate of $35/hour
