Insurance Defense Litigation Attorney

Summary

Join Semmes, Bowen & Semmes' Baltimore office as an associate with 3+ years of experience in insurance defense litigation. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in defending personal injury and property damage claims, including experience in areas such as products liability, construction litigation, and transportation law. This position offers a flexible hybrid work environment, with a requirement to be in the office 3 days a week after an initial training period. The firm provides a competitive salary ($90,000-$160,000 annually, including bonus), comprehensive benefits, and a supportive work environment. Candidates must be admitted to the Maryland bar and possess strong research, writing, and communication skills. Experience in other jurisdictions and a longer tenure are preferred.

Requirements

• JD from an accredited law school
• Admitted to practice law in MD required
• 3+ years' experience in insurance defense required
• Candidates should possess strong academic credentials and excellent research, writing and communication skills and have the ability to work independently
• Candidate will be detail oriented, organized, and self-motivated

Responsibilities

• Meet deadlines, multi-task, and handle a high volume of cases
• Research complicated legal issues
• Draft pleadings, motions, memoranda, discovery requests and responses, and all other documents in a timely manner
• Work closely with other attorneys and support staff
• Handle court appearances, client meetings, and depositions
• Communicate with clients regularly

Preferred Qualifications

• Admitted to practice in other jurisdictions such as DC or VA a plus
• 4-8 years' experience preferred
• Experience with complex general liability, professional liability, construction litigation, property damage claims, the defense of personal injury claims, and transportation is a plus
• Candidate will have a variety of litigation experience with a concentration in insurance defense
