Summary

Omitron is seeking a Junior Orbital Analyst to join their Vandenberg Operations Team. The role involves monitoring, analyzing, and predicting the behavior of space objects for mission success. Basic qualifications include a Bachelor's degree and DoD secret security clearance. Preferred qualifications include experience in space domain data and knowledge of orbital mechanics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Astrodynamics, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or related field. Or, have one of the following: Associates Degree with 2 years of relevant work experience or 4+ years of relevant work experience
  • Requires a DoD secret security clearance with an ability to attain a TS/SCI
  • Basic proficiency in a scripting language such as shell, Perl, or Python
  • Strong understanding of space surveillance and tracking systems, such as radar and optical sensors

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the analysis and interpretation of orbital data obtained from various sources, such as ground or space-based sensors and owner/operator Ephemeris data
  • Demonstrated understanding of orbit determination to include tracking and predicting the orbits using mathematical models and algorithms
  • Proficient understanding of space surveillance sensors, networks, and observation data, including capabilities and limitations
  • Willingness to study and understand orbital or space science data and non-regular data message management
  • Support the maintenance and improvement of data processing systems and software tools used in orbital analysis
  • Ability to learn how to apply orbital mechanics to real world problems
  • Aptitude on compiling statistics based on current space object population
  • Collaborate with mid-level and senior orbital analysts to track potential collision risks and other threats

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience involving space domain data
  • Robust knowledge of orbital mechanics
  • Familiarity with Python numerical and libraries such as NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib, SciPy, etc
  • Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills, with a track record of resolving complex orbital anomalies
  • Familiarity with Linux-based OS, particularly Red Hat or Suse
  • Proficiency in Python 2
