Junior Software Development Engineer - Backend

Summary

Join OfferUp's Verticals team as a Backend Junior Software Development Engineer and play a crucial role in the success of our jobs, rentals, and services marketplace. You will own features from concept to completion, writing well-architected code, performing thorough testing, and analyzing metrics. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is key. This role involves designing and implementing new features, maintaining code quality, creating solutions to improve team efficiency, and participating in on-call rotations. The position requires significant software engineering experience, cloud infrastructure expertise (AWS), and strong coding skills in various languages. This role is only available outside the US.

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience, of which at least 1 was devoted to web services
• Experience with cloud infrastructure via AWS
• Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive, and a track record of delivery
• Passion for building new products in a fast paced, team-oriented environment
• Strong coding skills in Java, Python, Scala, Golang or any other modern programming language coupled with strong knowledge in object-oriented design and microservices architecture
• BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer/Software Engineering, Information Systems/Technology, Information Science, or a related discipline

Responsibilities

• Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams across OfferUp to design and implement new features
• Help maintain code quality in existing applications
• Create solutions and/or frameworks that make other team members better and faster
• Participate in reasonable on-call rotations with the rest of the team
