Summary

Join our team as a Junior-level Data Scientist to support the Department of Defense (DoD) biosurveillance integration project by developing machine learning models and data science solutions. This role involves leveraging data science methodologies, programming skills, and statistical analysis to process large datasets, identify patterns, and provide insights that support mission objectives.

Requirements

  • Must have active DoD SECRET Clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree with 1-3 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with 1-3 years of experience
  • Experience with machine learning fields such as natural language processing (NLP), computer vision, statistical learning, and predictive modeling
  • Hands-on experience developing ML models using programming languages like Python, R, Scala, Java, or C++
  • Proficiency in handling large datasets, performing data exploration, and using SQL for data manipulation and analysis
  • Experience working with GPUs for model development and optimization
  • Knowledge of data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, matplotlib) to create compelling visual narratives
  • Strong ability to diagnose complex data challenges, propose and implement analytical solutions, and accurately interpret cause-and-effect relationships
  • Experience developing strategic, baselined data modeling processes and leveraging data science methodologies for problem-solving
  • Prior experience working in a data science or machine learning engineer role, developing and deploying ML models in a production environment
  • Familiarity with integrated development environments, data integration, data visualization, and data mining tools

Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, develop, test, and support data science and informatics solutions for a range of technical use cases related to biosurveillance and intelligence
  • Develop machine learning models for tasks such as natural language processing (NLP), computer vision, statistical learning, and predictive analytics
  • Write clean, maintainable code in Python, R, Scala, Java, or C++ to develop data science solutions, ensuring documentation for reproducibility and scalability
  • Analyze large, complex datasets to discover hidden patterns, trends, and insights, applying advanced analytical techniques to address mission-critical challenges
  • Use data visualization tools to communicate findings and support data-driven decision-making for technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Apply data engineering principles to handle and process terabyte-sized datasets, and leverage GPU resources to optimize model training and deployment
  • Collaborate with team members to develop data models and implement analytical methodologies to diagnose data-related challenges, propose solutions, and evaluate performance
  • Document and present requirements, design alternatives, and findings to team members and clients, providing clear, actionable recommendations based on data analysis
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of common libraries and tools used by multiple teams, ensuring the consistency and scalability of data science processes
  • Aid in formulating strategies for rapid prototyping and model development to meet evolving mission needs and provide real-time support for DoD biosurveillance initiatives
