Lead Data Engineer

Summary

Join Blend, an award-winning consultancy, as a Data Engineer to lead the migration of data infrastructure from BigQuery to Snowflake. You will optimize queries, refine database structures, review architecture, and identify bottlenecks. Success requires understanding data engineering principles, strategic architecture design, and data governance. The role offers 100% remote work if you live in LATAM or the option to work in Montevideo, Uruguay. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and mentor junior team members. Requirements

• 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a related data-focused role, with a strong focus on database architecture and migration projects
• Advanced proficiency in SQL, particularly in query optimization
• Proficiency in Python, with the ability to automate tasks and enhance data workflows
• Familiarity with cloud platforms, specifically Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery) and Snowflake (must-have)
• Experience with Terraform for infrastructure provisioning and automation
• Strong understanding of data security, data governance, and role-based access control (RBAC) in data environments
• Excellent written and verbal English for clear and effective communication with the team

Responsibilities

• Design and implement data architecture solutions for migrating from BigQuery to Snowflake
• Optimize SQL queries and database structures to improve performance and efficiency
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure data integrity and security during the migration process
• Develop and maintain scripts in Python for automation and data processing tasks
• Implement best practices for data governance, including defining roles, permissions, and schemas in Snowflake
• Conduct performance tuning and troubleshooting to resolve data pipeline issues
• Document processes, procedures, and configurations related to the migration project
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members on data engineering best practices

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of tools like Dataiku and AWS is a plus
