Summary

WiredPeople is hiring a Lead Genomic Epidemiologist Bioinformatician to support genomic surveillance and epidemiologic investigations for various pathogens. The role involves whole-genome sequencing analysis, developing bioinformatics pipelines, leading data management, providing technical assistance, reporting results, attending training workshops, and traveling. A PhD in a relevant field and at least 5 years of practical experience in microbial and public health bioinformatics are required.

Requirements

  • A PhD in bioinformatics, genomic epidemiology, microbiology, virology, parasitology, evolutionary biology, microbial genetics, molecular biology, computer science, or related field
  • At least five years of practical and technical experience in microbial and/or public health bioinformatics
  • At least 5 years’ experience working with evolutionary microbiology
  • At least five years of experience with phylogenetics and comparative genomic analysis of microbial organisms

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute whole-genome sequencing analysis, comparative genomic analysis, and other analytic research projects
  • Lead the selection and development of appropriate analysis techniques and measures
  • Identify and implement necessary software and databases for defined analytical tasks
  • Lead the development, management, and curation of databases for analysis
  • Lead the identification, implementation, and maintenance of data quality control
  • Provide telephonic and web-based technical assistance to other bioinformaticians, laboratory staff, and epidemiologists
  • Provide reports with analytical results from genomic surveillance and outbreak investigations
  • Lead the coordination with other bioinformaticians involved in analysis projects, including data sharing and engagement across multidisciplinary project teams
  • Disseminate the results of research projects in a wide range of venues
